Doha, Qatar, 29 February 2016: Ooredoo Q.S.C. (“Ooredoo”) - Ticker: ORDS has won two awards at the inaugural Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) Investor Relations Excellence Awards’ ceremony, collecting accolades for best Investor Relations website and best Investor Relations Officer. The survey canvassed expert opinion from the domestic and international investment community.
The event, which was held in Doha on February 28th, rewards QSE’s publicly listed companies who demonstrate best practice investor relations (IR) with categories for overall excellence in IR, best Chief Financial Officer, best Investor Relations Officer and top IR website. Over the last months finance professionals from the Middle East and abroad have assessed IR competencies, establishing the first winners of the IR Excellence Program, which was launched in April 2015.
Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al Thani, Group Chief Executive Officer, Ooredoo, said: “Ooredoo is committed to having open and transparent engagement with the capital markets, constantly striving to differentiate itself by adopting global disclosure standards. By doing so, Ooredoo strengthens its corporate reputation but also helps to raise awareness about the importance of IR, which is integral to driving the growth of capital markets in the region. I am pleased the efforts of our IR team have been recognized with these awards and would like to thank the Qatar Stock Exchange for becoming the region’s first exchange to launch a program rewarding excellence in this field.”
The Qatar Stock Exchange mandated independent advisory firm Iridium to design a credible framework for the Excellence Program, which was benchmarked globally to ensure a transparent voting methodology. Buy-side fund managers and sell-side analysts from Doha to New York were invited to survey the performance of QSE-listed companies’ IR programs with a view to set benchmarks for other companies in the region and ignite further discussion about the value of transparency in financial communication.
Ooredoo’s long standing commitment to best practice disclosure practices has been recognized by regional industry organizations including the Middle East Investor Relations Society (MEIRS), who named Ooredoo Qatar’s best Investor Relations Corporate in September 2015 at their annual awards ceremony. Ooredoo has been a frequent nominee at the society’s annual awards ceremony since it began in 2009.
