Ooredoo awards MVR 50,000 grant to Winner of Smart Ideas for Women Challenge!
Ms. Mizna Gasim wins grant to bring her dream of creating an e-Parental Support Group for mothers across the country
Ooredoo today announced the winner of its ‘Smart Ideas for Women’ challenge - Ms. Mizna Gasim won a grant of MVR 50,000 to help bring her idea to life. The prize winning brilliant idea of Ms. Mizna Gazim is, to create an e-Parental Support Group that supports mothers around the country in understanding children's behaviour, with special focus towards managing difficult behaviours.
‘Smart Ideas for Women’ challenge was carried out as part of Ooredoo’s commitment to GSMA’s Connected Women Programme, which is focused on the socio-economic benefits of greater inclusion of women at all points in the mobile industry from consumer to employee to leaders. Held in collaboration with local NGO, Woman on Boards (WOB), the challenge aimed to highlight some of the key challenges being faced by women across our communities and to create awareness on how technologies can provide smart solutions in tackling these issues.
The challenge asked members of society whom were interested in closing the gender gap to share ideas on how they would use technology to empower women and girls within the Maldivian society. The best ideas were shortlisted and the chosen candidates had the opportunity to present their idea to a panel of judges. The winning idea was selected by the panel of experts based on its potential to empower women, as well as the effectiveness of the participant’s plans to utilize the grant in implementing her idea.
The Ambassador of Connected Women in the Maldives, member of board of Ooredoo Maldives and Senior Partner SHAH, HUSSAIN & CO. Barristers and Attorneys, Ms. Dheena Hussain said: “Being on the panel of judges, I was given the opportunity to witness a number of inspirational ideas, presented by members of our community who passionately believe in equal opportunities for women and men. It was a wonderful experience, and I urge all our participants to continue their work in closing the gender gap, and making the most of modern technological advancements to empower women and girls within our communities.”
