Ooredoo has won “Operator of the Year” at the TMT Finance MENA Awards, crowning the company’s achievements in rebranding and driving broadband innovation over the last year.

Judges praised Ooredoo for its effective rollout of the Ooredoo brand globally, and across Qatar, Tunisia, Algeria, and the Maldives over the past year, and its strong success on its Broadband Strategy across its footprint in the Middle East, North Africa, and South East Asia. In addition, the judges recognised the success of Ooredoo’s US$ 1.25 billion sukuk bond offering.

Since 2009, the TMT Finance Awards have recognised achievement in the top performers of telecoms mergers and acquisitions, debt, leadership, and innovation.

Dr. Nasser Marafih, Group CEO, Ooredoo, said: “Receiving the award for ‘Operator of the Year’ demonstrates how successful we have been in enhancing the customer experience across our footprint. As we continue to roll out our Ooredoo brand in 2014, we will also continue to develop our data capabilities as part of our long-term vision for the company.”

Ooredoo was praised by the judges for its focus upon enhancing data services across its footprint, and its success in making data access the single largest contributor to revenue growth in 2013.

In 2013, Ooredoo became the first company to offer 4G networks in three GCC countries: Qatar, Oman, and Kuwait, along with the Maldives. Ooredoo also deployed Algeria’s widest 3G network, and is preparing to launch nationwide 3G coverage in its newest market of Myanmar.

Broadband investment has in turn supported mobile innovation, with Ooredoo offering a wide range of services that support human growth. Ooredoo has passed one million total Mobile Money customers; launched the first-ever Arab Mobile App Challenge for young ICT entrepreneurs; and supported mobile services in education, healthcare, and women’s empowerment over the last 12 months.

Complementing mobile broadband, the company has provided fibre connections to more than 100,000 homes in Qatar; and launched Business Fibre in Qatar, Indonesia, Oman, and Tunisia.

As a result of its on-going efforts, Ooredoo increased its total consolidated customers from 92.9 million in 2012 to 95 million as of December 2013, with strong growth in Qatar, Algeria, Indonesia, Iraq, and Oman.

The TMT Finance MENA Awards 2014 were held at Mina A’Salaam - Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai, UAE on 7 May 2014. Ooredoo previously won the TMT Finance 2013 Middle East Awards for “Best Mobile Operator”.
