Fending off strong competition, Indosat, part of Ooredo Group, was awarded “Best Mobile Financial Service” for its mMoney initiative, Dompetku, at the Telecoms.com awards ceremony in Barcelona this week. The awards recognise innovation and excellence in the global communications industry.
Indosat, the second largest telecommunication operator in Indonesia by revenue, launched its Dompetku Mobile Wallet and Mobile Money Service in July 2013, in partnership with QNB Kesawan.
Dompetku is a life-enriching mobile money service in Indonesia available on smart, feature and basic handsets. The service is designed for Indonesia’s unbanked and under-banked communities, which account for approximately 60% of the population. Providing these customers with access to a comprehensive suite of mobile financial services, Dompetku offers a low cost alternative for spending and payments for people who do not have bank accounts or easy access to financial services.
Ooredoo Group has more than one million customers using Mobile Money services across the group and has launched services in Indonesia, Qatar and Tunisia.
Alexander Rusli, CEO, President Director and Director of PT Indosat tbk, said: “Part of our mission is to reach out to under-served communities across Indonesia, and it is very gratifying to receive international recognition for our efforts with Dompetku. In less than a year, the service has grown to be one of the most trusted and convenient financial services in the country, particularly for people who previously had very limited options.”
Dr. Nasser Marafih, Group CEO, Ooredoo, said: “Across our footprint, Ooredoo is delivering mobile money services to the people who need them most. This international recognition for Indosat’s efforts stands with other global awards we have received over the last year, and demonstrates our commitment to human growth throughout our operations.”
Indosat has received a number of national and global awards for its diverse range of customer-centric services in recent years, supporting human growth and development across the large and diverse Indonesian market.
The strategic partnership between Indosat and QNB Kesawan, a leading bank with more than 100 years’ experience in Indonesia which now has Qatar National Bank as majority shareholder, is another indication of the strong links that exist between the leading companies of Qatar and Indonesia. Indosat and QNB Kesawan developed the service after signing a strategic agreement that aimed to promote key services for customers.
Voted for by a panel of independent judges and supported by a team of specialist judges, the Telecoms.com awards honour industry excellence in everything from the most ground-breaking advances in network technology and services delivered over those networks, front line innovations in customer service, enterprise cloud offerings and the use of green technology.
The Telecoms.com award joins a number of global awards received by Ooredoo and Ooredoo companies in recent months, including “Best Mobile Operator of the Year” at the World Communication Awards.
