Ooredoo Group statement on the situation in Myanmar

18 February 2021 .

Ooredoo Group is closely following the developing situation in Myanmar and remains deeply concerned about its negative impact on the people and the economy of the country.

Our main priorities continue to be supporting Ooredoo Myanmar, ensuring the wellbeing of our employees in the country and providing open access to the internet and telecommunications services for our customers.

We deeply regret recent disruptions to telecommunications services in Myanmar and their impact on the ability of people in Myanmar to access information and stay connected. We encourage the authorities to maintain telecommunications services at all times, noting the significant economic and social benefits that connectivity and technology bring to the country.

All mobile operators and internet service providers in Myanmar are required to comply with local law and new directives issued by the Ministry of Transport and Communications. As such, Ooredoo Myanmar does regretfully comply with these directives.

Ooredoo Group continues to extend its support to Ooredoo Myanmar and to the people of Myanmar during this time.”
